Brooke Everett has faced more tragedy at the age of eighteen than most experience in a life-time. Her survival of the car accident that took her dad’s life was all too fresh when she and her boyfriend are mugged. Once again, she survives, and he does not. Through her recovery, she finds herself suffering through debilitating migraines and strange auras. It’s those haunting visions that cause her to contemplate the very real possibility that she is somehow living with a curse, as those she loves lose their lives and she survives. 

In an effort to heal her broken heart, she moves across the country to live with her mother and be close to her older brother. Throwing herself into an old passion, she trains to compete in a wakeboarding competition in Lake Tahoe which seems to be just what she needs to move forward in her life. But nothing could prepare her for the unexpected turn of events and she finds herself caught up, once again, in the wake of life. 

Life really begins to do some wicked tricks when she meets Slater, who turns her life upside down and inside out. Once again, Brooke finds her life inverted, and the auras have taken life in a twisted direction that she could have never anticipated. Her visions complicate her life more than she ever could have imagined, and her deepest pains and desires are brought to the edge, as she nearly loses her grip through the roughest waters she’s ever experienced. What she finds is that it’s ultimately the auras which are the key to making peace with her past and unlocking the future.
